What is the "horn" in the airbox you guys refer to? Does anyone have a pic?

I always thought it was the air horn inside the airbox, directly before the AFM.

Rob, M20's have the thing that connects the airbox to the rear headlight cover as well... that isn't the air horn we are talking about.

yea, the air horn is inside the air box. If open it up you'll see it clear as day.

So has anyone here tried this yet, im about to try it. why not? This is accually what i planned to do a while ago. Its cool to see that it works the best

I tried it this weekend on my spare air box. Very nice sound increase, negligable gains. It felt a little more responsive, but that was about it.
I would do it if you like your car to sound "throaty" when you get on the gas.

If you want the max airflow through this particular unit, you can't go wrong with the Mahle OEM filter.

I got board today so i decided to drill holes in my airbox. lol. What i did was only drill holes in the sides that arnt facing the engine, and left the other 2 sides back and rightside holeless. I figured it would keep some of the direct hot air away from it. I also removed the snorkle and the other peice that attachs to the Plastic piece behind the headlights. Im using the filter that was in my box to start with. Its new and doenst need to be replaced. I'll later replace it with a K&N.

I also think that in the future im going to Cut the hole bottom off. and make an airbox(hearsheild) for it. Ive made an airbox(heatsheild) for my 318i when i put the cone in and it worked great. I just dont have enough time right now to make it. (also lazy)

Anyways, for now with the holes in the box it sounds great. I havent driven it yet because I was being blocked in, but ill take it out for a drive in a little bit.

since it seems that theres not many people that have the metal airbox, id call up junk yards, and pic up another airbox and give it a try. What does the metal one look like? what engine?

i remember there was a metal one on my 84 318i.
