    No rev limiter

    Hello all.

I have an 91 with a s50/vfe kit. My car does not have a rev limiter. Is it possible to add one?

    thanks

Did VFE include a tune for you? Was there a rev limiter before the vfe sc kit install? I know they have a data flashing cable for OBD2, but I'm not sure about the OBD1 counterpart.

I'm assuming it is using a vfe tune on the stock ecu. I had a 89 325is with a chip and it did not have an limiter so I'm assuming it's the same thing or do BMW not have limiters?

BMW definitely have rev limiters, and most tunes/chips have rev limiters as well, but are set higher than red-line on the cluster.

How high can you rev it?

Can I assume you didn't install the kit, then?

no I got the car with the kit already installed. Pro install job. shes old but still runs like a champ. She will go to at least 7000. I would like a 65 to 6700 limit.

Are you sure your tach is reading accurately?

I know how this sounds, but why do you need a 6,700rpm limit instead of 7,000? Limiters are only there for emergency situations, not regular usage. Just stop at 6,700 and save the limiter for mistakes or low-gear runs at full throttle.

I hear ya but when drag racing if I break her lose she spins super fast when the SC kicks in. it's not that I can't control it and watch for 7 but it would be nice not to have to focus on going past 7. Over reving with a SC isn't good.

Contact VFE. They should be able to tell you what, if any, rev limiter is in the SW. And I'd guess that they could program in any desired rev limit.

Having blown more than one engine that did not have a rev limiter while racing, I certainly would want one. Sequential shift lights help a lot, but sometimes....
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Ah, drag racing + supercharger makes sense. Just detune it so it doesn't rev so quickly! :)

It could just have a 7000-7200 rpm limit.
