    87 325e speedometer issues

I have been having some issues with my speedometer lately, mph is way off. 70mph is reading 100mph on the cluster, 40mph is reading 55mph, and so on. Seems like at highway speeds it's 20mph off and city speed 5-10 mph off. I have replaced the speed sensor and still having the same issue. Any ideas?

I'm guessing...someone swapped your speedo perhaps from a 4cyl car. What's the number on the bottom of your speedo face and is it a VDO or Motometer...or did this just start happening

It's been happening since a bought the car 4 months ago. It was intermitent for a while, now it's all the time. Occasionally the speedo will also just start jumping all over the place on deceleration. The number on the front of the speedo is k=7784 SAE and says VDO

E30 speedometers are usually 4-5 MPH off. If your needle is bouncing around, its a good chance you have cracked solder joints on the speedometer circuit board or cluster main board or both.

If the unit is indeed 15-20 MPH off, someone may have messed with the calibration. Let us know if you need repair or recalibration, we can do it.

It's weird how it's malfunctioning in relation to speed though.. Bad solder joints might not cause this. You should just take out your cluster and have a look. It's just a few screws and it comes right out. Just remember how you got it out because getting it back in is tricky
