    OBC Not powering on

    Hi all,

Not sure where to post this question.

I have been working on my 84' 325E and I came across a lil problem. Had the car in a shop for a while and decided to bring home to finally fix. Car would start up fine for months. I decided to replace some parts in the engine.

    Went and replace the following:

    Fuel pump
    Fuel filter
    Fuel lines
    Fuel pressure regulator
    Coolant hoses
    Water pump
    Thermostat and housing
    Belts
    Timing belt and tensioner
    Spark plugs
    Air filter
    Drained and refilled coolant

After all this work, I went to start it up and the OBC is not powering up. Therefore I cant enter the starting code.

The tachometer and odometer section is working fine. I replaced the light strip and rear light for the OBC and still nothing. The fuses all seem to be good as well. Any thoughts or suggestions to what causes this or did it crap out on me?

I accidentally posted same message in Project forum but im gonna post pics there later as I progress.

    Thanks

OBC Pulls 100% of its power from the Yellow connector on the back of the instrument cluster, check there

So this weekend I checked all the connectors and pins and still no change . I decided to pull out obc completely to inspect it and it looks like the screen has a crack thru it.

How do I go about replacing the obc? Is it just plug and play? Or is there a procedure to installing a new one? Also what happens to the code I have already?

The OBC is plug and play. Nothing else to it.

What about the code for the fuel pump?

You have to enter the code each time? Why would you have that enabled? Haha.

Honestly, I'm not sure where the code would be stored if it wasn't just in the OBC. I'd try removing it and seeing if the car will start.

I had the battery off for a while and I guess it reset and now it wont start without the code. Or at least I think that's why it's not starting. I haven't tried to unplug the obc and starting it. But how is the pump gonna turn on?

I saw something about using a jumper on the fuel pump relay

To reset the OBC: turn the ignition to the accessory position (first position), push the code button on the OBC, now push the pin hole button with a pencil or a small hex wrench in until it resets.

What kind of reset does that do? Will it erase the code function completely or is that a language kind of reset.

Just thought about it. The screen is out but why would the buttons be out as well. Back to the connectors i guess

That is to reset the security code only. After you have done the reset, you will not have to put in a code to start your car until you enable that function again with a new code.

So I tried the code reset and no luck. Starting to think the obc crapped out on me. Gonna see if I can pick one up for a good price. Thanks
