    Need help with a transmission.

    I was given this http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=23_1140
I have a 1990 318i Touring with the M40B18. I know that the m10 and the M40 transmissions are not interchangeable but, I was wondering if someone could help me out and tell me if I need to just go ahead and part with the transmission I was given or to see if it will fit.
This is what is on the car now

looks like it might fit. the confusing part is it shows the G260 as fitting the M10, but I didn't think that was true. maybe there's another bellhousing I've never seen before.

I think the G260 is longer though so you would need a different driveshaft.

That's what is weird that the M10 and M40/M42 transmission were not interchangeable. Hmm so confused right now.

The M30 and M10 transmissions have the same bellhousing
        (M30 = M10 +2)
The M30 did get a version of the G260- removable bellhousing? I forget...

but it is different than the M40/42/5x pattern.
