    can't open passenger door

just picked up an early e30 vert and the passenger door is stuck in the lock position so I cannot open it.

Key in the cylinder will only turn to the lock position and will not budge at all turning it to unlock.

Suggestions on what to do? can the door panel be removed with the door closed?

yes, you can remove the panel with the door closed. If you are careful, you won't even damage it.

Did you try unlocking it from the trunk?

I haven't tried unlocking from the trunk, only drivers side door.
How does that make a difference?

I have the same problem on the driver's side. I can lock it but I have to use the central locking system to unlock it. Once I get the list of other fixes done, I will have to tackle this.

i think the lock is seized. maybe I'll try some PB blaster right in to the cylinder.

could there by anything mechanical in the door preventing it from unlocking? or does this sound like the typical lock needing to be rebuilt?

The lock could be seized, but you definitely want to try to unlock/lock the car from the trunk a few times, like others have said already, and see if that changes anything. Central locking could still pop a lock if the tumbler itself is broken.

Trunk lock doesn't unlock the door either. Looks like the door lock pin is stuck half way between lock and unlock. The door pull is stuck too.
Think pb blaster in the cylinder will help?

Try sticking the key in the lock cylinder in the door, applying pressure clockwise on the key, then opening the door handle. It's worked for me more than once when my sister's old iX got double-locked. Once it's open you'll obviously want to pull the door panel and take a look.

Unfortunately that didn't work for me. Hopefully the weather is half decent this weekend I can pull the panel off with the door closed

Weird...if you were a bit closer I'd drop by and take a look. You have to use a borderline-uncomfortable amount of torque on the key.
