Hey so my 87 325I was rear ended and the trunk is crooked. I'm picking up a clean she'll this weekend. My car had a rebuilt head, brand new clutch, and brand new suspension. I was thinking I could lift the body off the subframe and keep the suspension , engine , trans, drive shaft, and diff all connected if I supported it correctly. I'm basically doing the work in a craneyard so I have all kinds of lifts/rigging. Anyone ever done this?

Getting the subframe to drop will be the only issue that I see.
It's also probably more trouble than it's worth to do it that way. Lining it up, bolting it in, etc, is going to be a pain in the ass to get 100% straight front to back. Doing it in 2 pieces and then putting the driveshaft back in is going to be the easiest way to do it.AWD > RWD

Otherwise raising the body off of the subframes is a great way to do it.
