I decided to replace the 3rd brake light assembly on my vert, because the old one was fogged over and cracked in several places. When I got it out this is what I found:

I couldn't help but notice several levels of kludging here. First of all, the creative use of ductape to insulate the splices...and when I removed one of the tape pieces I was amused to see NO attempt to even twist the wires together or use something like solder. But the one that really made me appreciate the master kludger was that crimp connector stuck in the middle of the supply wire. That was at least wrapped with electrical tape, but how it came to be there is anyone's guess. I'm just amazed the brake light actually worked with all this bodging. The check panel was even happy, showing no anomalies.
Well, the new unit is in place, but I had to share the horrors I found with you guys. Oh, and excuse the E46 in the background, that's my wife's car.
