    AC Question

The PO of my car removed/cut the AC lines running from the connection near the shock tower down to the compressor. So the compressor has had both of the inlet/outlet ports open to the elements, for who knows how long. If I want to get the AC working, will the compressor and the rest of the system be fine, having being left like this?

It's a roll of the dice if the compressor will still work properly. There's also a reason AC bits get removed, and it generally has to do with something being broken. So it's safe to say that you'll need to replace the compressor to have functional AC.

You can get a new r134a compressor for $200 shipped. Get a new and be done with it.

Don't forget to replace the condenser, receiver/drier, pressure switch (and convert the electricals), and the expansion valve for maximum efficiency.

Yeah, I was assuming since the system was hacked apart it was probably wasn't working before. Thanks for all the responses!

To really do it right you should remove the 2 hoses above the glove box and have them upgraded to barrier hoses by a pan ac shop as they are NLA. I put that off when I did a complete upgrade and those hoses have gone from a slow leak to being blown.

The other hoses you can buy and they will be barrier.

              Ah, ok. Good to know.

Do you know where these can be sourced?

The tricky part of updating the compressor is to make sure you have the mounting kit to bolt the SOB to your block.

This is the hard part as I'm finding. Have any lines on where I can get one :)

I got a reman compressor from autozone and it bolted right on, I think they had a 20% off coupon online so it wasn't too bad price wise.

Amazing. Thank you! Did you do the full r134 conversion as well? Did you have to add the "manifold" that they mention on the Autozone website?

Yes, I did the retrofit from the diy thread.

I did have to use the manifold from the old compressor, which is the two metal inlets from the hard lines that cover the 4 holes on top from the autozone picture.

Part numbers 1 and 2 in this diagram for my compressor.

Thanks Tim. Going with a new unit from autozone. Cannot wait to get working AC in this car again.
