    Airbag delete?

I have been thinking about changing the steering wheel on my '91 325ix for something else. (For example an M Tech).

I'm not sure I want to remove a factory installed safety device such as the airbag. Then again, do I really want to get hit in the face with a 25 year old airbag?

    I saw this article: http://jalopnik.com/5982903/are-old-airbags-safe

But they really just asked a question and the comments were almost exclusively discussing airbags in general, not old airbags.

So- what's your viewpoint on this....

Do you always wear your seatbelt when driving? If the answer is yes then a first generation non depowered airbag is not something you need, assuming it works properly in a crash.

      Takata airbag recall. /thread

Just unplug it and remove it. You can remove the computer too but you dont really need to.

I know i wouldn't want it exploding in my face either..

I'd love to jump on the airbags are stupid as hell/unnecessary, but they do occasionally save the lives of drivers who just happened to be unlucky, and not just drunk people. However, non adaptive, early, and old bags are more of a liability than protection.

But this is an E30, so you know the risks, and you take your chances in the sea of 2 ton+ barges roaming the streets anyway.

Airbags are pretty amazing in their ability to save your neck in the 25-50 mph frontal crash.

I did a full system extraction. computer, 2 fender mounted sensors, airbag, wiring harness, and even changed over the warning sensor light in the overhead to a non airbag version...
