    Head Bolt change help...

Hi All, i'm planning on doing my HG bolts and replace them to the new Torx. i have read that they should be torqued to 22lb/ft. then 90 deg, then 90 deg. i just want to clear something here, what does "90 deg" mean? does it mean i turn it 90 deg after torqing it to 22lb?, then again 90deg?

another question is, stage one means the first round of torqing, then 90deg for all bolts, then again 90 deg. i read somewhere that you do all bolts in one shot without staging them between. is this true? if so, there wouldn't be staging then, would it? any input would be greatly appreciated.

    you torque them all,
    turn them all 90 degrees,
    get it hot
    add 90 degrees.

Or read the instructions with the new headgasket. That's the final word.

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

Are you just changing the bolts and not the head gasket itself?

If so, DO THEM ONE AT A TIME! Remove one bolt, clean out the threads in the block to make sure there is no oil or fluids in the hole, install the new bolt, torque it to 22 ft-lbs, then angle torque the bolt a further 90 degrees TWICE.

Do NOT move onto another bolt until the one you are working on is done. (Unless you want a leaking head gasket afterwards :()

Ive never read anywhere that you get it hot before the last 90 degrees. Seems to defeat the purpose

Read the installation sheet that comes with the gasket.

Oh, right- the M20 one says wait 20 minutes, doesn't it?
It's the M10 one that says to get it hot.

Never trust anything you read on the internet-
