Most electrical not working after sitting

I just finished hooking up all of my wiring harness as well as vacuum hoses and coolant hoses. My windows work, my headlights work, my car will turn over, but nothing else seems to be functioning. My radio doesn't work, my blower fan doesn't work, I have no spark, my fuel pump isn't working and my interior lights aren't working. Are these all linked to a bad dme? I understand from what I have read that the basic ignition issues can be cause by this, but what about all of the other misc. items not receiving power such as the radio. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Have you checked all the fuses/relays? Definitely check the dme relay. The radio & blower are a separate issue.

I now fixed fuse for radio and blower is seized. I'm working on fixing the blower. I still have no spark, fuel pump, or injector unless i jump the relay. The relay is getting now power to close the circuit. How do I test the dme relay?

Have you tested the blower on all settings (1-4)? Could be the resistors in the fan housing.

If your dme relay is bad, you will not get spark or fuel. The relay sends power to the coil and to the fuel pump relay.

You can jumper the relay socket, but I would not recommend it unless you have a decent idea what you are doing. Its simple enough to bench test. Take the relay out, and grab a fresh 9 volt battery. Touch the battery posts to relay (battery + to 86 and battery - to 85). You should hear/feel a click. If not, its dead. Even if it clicks, it still may not be working correctly. You need to make sure the battery switched both 87 terminals (may be 87 & 87a). With battery still attached, check continuity between 30/87 and then 30/87a. If no continuity, it is not working properly.

I think its likely the relay. I could be wrong though. The relay gets a ground signal from the ecu (I think pin 36). If the relay is good and everything is wired correctly, it may be worth trying another ecu.

You mentioned it sit for a while. You may have gotten debris in the vents under the front windshield, and that could potentially have caused water to overflow in the firewall area. Could (possibly) explain the blower and ecu probs (if thats what it turns out to be).

Yea, I pulled the blower cover off and found dead mice, so that answers that one. I checked the other 2 relays next to the dme relay. I also have a new dme relay on order so it will be to my house my friday along with misc. parts I need when I drop the trans to do the rear main. If the dme itself is cooked could that also lead to no power to the fuel pump or dme relay?

The coil contacts on the fuel pump relay rely on power from dme relay, so a bad dme relay means no fuel pump (among other things). And yes, a bad dme could definitely cause issues with the fuel pump. The dme relay and the fuel pump relay are both grounded through the ecu.

You could check for voltage at fuse 11 (ignition on).

This thread has a diagram that may explain things better. http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=195470

Finding mice is not a good sign. There could be damaged wiring in all sorts of places. Hopefully they were isolated to the fan housing, but I would grab a flashlight & inspect every connection/splice/wire, and then do it again.

Id also grab a multimeter and test the ecu. Its way to much for me to remember off the top of my head, but a quick google search for e30 ecu pinout tests should get you answers pretty quickly.

I've been able to jump the fuel pump to get it to work so I ordered a new dme relay. Ill check the voltage as well. I don't really understand how to test the ecu so I will do some research on testing that. I pretty much figure that if I replace the relay and there are no frayed wires and the car still won't start, it is most likely the dme itself.

I found evidence of mice in my blower motor in addition to evidence of what happened to them

Haha, a snake skin. Well I wish a snake had gotten to mine. I just got my new dme relay today and still no spark or fuel... Either some cable is shorting out or my ecu is toast. http://imgur.com/RCtBY9X

How do mice and snakes even get inside when there are vents that cover the cowl area on top and there's a cover in the engine compartment + hood?

Prob came through the foot vents on the inside. This car sat for 10 years with no engine

10 years....wow. Good news is you can probably pick up another ecu on the cheap. May even find one for less than the cost of the dme relay haha.

Does it have the obc? If so Id try bypassing the obc relay box. If nothing else, its something you could try for free.

                          You'd have to ask them
