    Blower fan wheel

    Hi all,
    First time e30 vert owner here, got this 125,000 beauty three weeks ago and I'm sorting a few things....the previous owner gave me a spare fan for the blower, (he says it's just blowing from one of them, my question is do I have to remove the whole assembly from the car to replace it or can I do it with it in place? I still trying to get acquinted with the structure of this forum so I will search for something if there is a DIY section. Any pinters are appreciated!

    It's best to remove the whole blower (motor with 2 impellers) as the impeller is a press-fit onto the motor shaft.

      How? They are on the same spinning blower shaft. Yes, you'll need to take the blower apart. Test it on the bench to make sure they are balanced before re-install the blower.

        It's my understanding that both squirrel cages are balanced on the blower as a unit so best to change the whole assembly if possible....not to mention the like hood of breaking one when attempting to remove it from the shaft

            Just a quick update, I finally scored a used blower motor from a '90 325i at the local pull a part. It was a good practice to take it out so I was a little prepared. That metal clip is a biotch and a half to unclip, clip it back was really easy. Taking the motor in and out was tricky to say the least.

            So I have no idea what happened to the original blower but the PO was right, one of the impellers was totally missing, good thing it was not affecting the balance since it was still working (half force). Now I finally have a full blast air/heat!

            It was definitely the best route to replace the whole thing since I don't have the right tools to extract and press the wheel onto the shaft.
