Hello all,
I took on an '85 e30 project that has some weird things going on electrically.
The engine harness is fine, no problems there. The cluster seems to have partial power, the gas gauge, temp gauge, and the brake warning lamp work sporadically. There is no or partial voltage at the green/red "always hot" wire to the radio. The digital clock lights uo at key on but randomly has no readout.
The thing is, the fan switch works, hazard and defrost buttons work. I'm thinking that there is a problem with the harness either as it enters the cabin through the firewall or in the fusebox. Everything points to a missing/loose ground, but that wouldn't explain the lack of voltage to things. I know the dash was recently changed. Is there somewhere to check to see if it's a loose connection under the dash?
