    Rear end noise, wheel bearing?

I found a serious son noise coming from the rear end of my car for at least the last six months. Doesn't quite sound like a we'll bearing.

I replaced the limited slip differential since I know that was not whining and had the leaks and Pinion bearing issue and still the noise remains.

Since the noise didn't change with the diff swap, that tends to implicate the wheel bearings and/or half shafts. A good BMW tech can probably diagnose this and tell you what is bad.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Sorry, we couldn’t find that page

I took the rotor off as well and made no difference. it wasn't a rock or anything stuck in between the dust shield in the rotor.

What does a bad halfshaft sound like?

haa haa, had to click for that!

          Bearings, first, methinks.

But that CV axle is moving a bit...

sounds like a bearing.. in the back you can tell it's a bearing if you take off your axle and spin the hub. If it feels rough it's your bearing. Not a super bad job to do but you need to grab the $120 "FWD Bearing Kit" from Harbor Freight and probably a nice punch and sledge hammer

Also a dremel and cutting wheel for getting the inner race off the hub.

it's a Kenny Powers quote on wheels

So the Harbor Freight tool will work? Will that take the hub off as well?

The inner half shaft boots have been done but the outers have not. There are some small cracks in the rubber but no leaks or tears. Could the grease have dried up?

You will also need a slide hammer to pull the hub from the bearing. You can rent then from Abbry auto parts store.

Axles usually make rhythmic clicking/knocking noises when they go bad, not grinding/screaching noises.

HF kit works great. When I bought mine they threw a coupon at me so I think I paid $79

I ordered a new set of bearings and found out that the local Oriley has a rental set.

                        Rear end noise, wheel bearing?

I had to go get the right tool from Harbor Freight. None of the box parts stores had it.

I changed the bearings out and the noise went away for 2 days.

Now everything is good at speed, but once the cars been driven for 10 minutes and everything is warmed up, the one side whines like crazy below 25 mph. If I speed up there's no noise.

Should I be worried? Could I have over tightened something?

Both hubs came out relatively easy an the old bearings stayed together. New bearings went in fine and I had no issues using the HF tool to get the bearings back in.

You can't overtighten the rear on an E30- it's designed to clamp solid.
Usually if they go wrong, they don't go back together.

See if maybe you bent the brake backing plate so it's touching...

Why would it only make noise after it's been driven for a bit then?

When was the last time you had your wheels aligned? If the alignment is off, it is not good for the bearings. Although, in your case for such a short distance...I don't know why.
