    malfunctioning cluster

Hey. Have a VDO cluster that worked fine in one car and swapped into another. Now...the green service lights stay on until I rev the car to 3k they then go out.
I thought maybe the coding plugs were different since the cluster went from a auto car into a 5sp. but they were the same and the symptoms didn't change.

the other issue is the fuel economy gauge; instead of moving slowly from side to side it shoots up fast and drops fast when reving the car.

any ideas what this could be?

any input would be appreciated. thx.

the codling plug shouldn't effect the SI board. I'm guessing a bad ground or other connection.
Seat Shocks....I have passed the baton to John Christy from Ninestitch. Email John or Garrett at ninestitch1@gmail.com

Unplugging the 30 year old SI board (cluster) from the car will kill off what little life they have left. Even for just a few minutes will kill them off. With dead SI board batteries it will affect performance of the tach, temp, MPG and OBC gauge.

I have an intermittent cluster. All gauges.

        Is this a battery thing?

I just need to pony up the money and send it to you...

Yeah batteries but also solder joint and trace cracks are extremely common, especially among VDO brand clusters.
