e46 question ms45.1, r3v is way better than e46 forum

Ya i know this isn't the best place for this but imo e46fanatics blows and i always get maybe one shitty guess of an answer there 3 weeks after the thread is started so I'm posting to almighty r3v. Thanks in advance.





Hey so i have some questions about swapping a non zhp m54b30 into my 2004 330ci zhp. My engine is on the way out and I'm getting blue smoke from the tail pipe, its been running bad for a while and makes bad noises pretty sure it needs a new engine and i don't have the downtime for a rebuild.



So my question is if i buy a non zhp m54b30 can i use the same dme which is a ms45.1 from my car ? from what i understand the standard 330ci uses an ms43 dme but i also read that m54b30s from 2003 on use the ms45.1?



So if i swap the non zhp motor in will it run w/out problem on my zhp dme? if it won't can i plug in the ms43 dme w/out problem ?

basically whats my best option here ? could i send my dme out for a flash to the non zhp software ? who does that ?



Thanks in advance any help would be great. i don't care at all about the 300 rpm loss or the 10 HP.

My WAG is that you'll be fine if the donor engine is also MS45, and that's just for details
like o2 sensors, connectors etc.

The only difference in ZHP m54 and nonZHP m54 is the cams as far as I know. Maybe just swap your cams to the new engine and go with it.

I have to get an M 54 from a O3 plus car that has MS 45. The wind band 02 sensor would be a problem

Yeah there's definitely some very knowledgeable people on there a lot more people just speculating and the response rate is terrible. Seems a bit more geared toward hella flush ppl and cosmetic mods. Zhpmafia is a nightmare, worst forum.

the ZHP engine harness is diffrent as well because the MAF is different so you will have to use that stuff if you want to run the ZHP DME

I think that is only a difference in the MS43 vs MS45 cars. Non-ZHPs produced from 03/2003 used MS45 as well. There's only one harness part # after 2003.

This is why r3v is wayyyy better than e46 fans. The responses I got there were trash.

Thanks ya I'll be using all other parts that are currently in the zhp besides block and head. From what I've searched should work out fine.

Might try to source a refurbished or good condition 6 speed too. Mines ok but could be better.

My car today during acceleration in 4th gear just started stumbling/shuddering really harshly. Engine shaking, acceleration was really lumpy then I pulled up to my house turned it off then back on and everything was fine ?!? No codes besides a pre existing ambient air temp sensor code that is unplugged because it got torn up from hittin the ground. Any ideas ?
