I am starting the rehab of my 84 318i coupe. This was my first new car. It was taken off the road about 8 years ago due to rust issues. One of its needs is to repair/replace the driver side floor. Am I wasting my time to try to find a usable floor section or should I just start fabricating a replacement.

If you can find a good one from a donor go for it."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

It depends on your fabricating skills and how perfect you consider good enough. For example, on my rallyx car, I wire wheeled all the rust holes and then put a sheet of metal across them. Tacked them in a whole bunch of places. Then caulked the rest. It just needed to be solid and water proof, after that I didn't care.Last edited by Kershaw; 11-13-2017, 05:58 PM.AWD > RWD

Its been almost 5 decades since I had metal shop class. But I do have a neighbor who runs a sheet metal shop. He's my source for metal and some advise, plus some access to tools that most weekenders would not have. Ideally I'd like to cut out the rusted section, flange the periphery and drop in a solid salvage floor.
