You don't really need a new selector rod unless your's is broken or something.

Ok, looking at that picture, I replaced the following items (including part numbers):

    2 - x1 - 25 11 1 220 832
    - I replaced the above crappy rubber thing with delrin bushings from UUC - a LOT more solid, for an extra $30, its worth it! ( http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/ )

    3 - x1 - 25 11 1 221 849
    - Not really required, a new one came from UUC, so I used it. Wouldn't hurt to replace it tho, so it's clean.

    6 - x1 - 25 11 1 220 600
    - Definately replace this. Probably will break the old one getting it out.

    7 - x1 - 25 11 1 220 912
    - Fairly cheap, doesn't hurt to replace.

    8 - x1 - 25 11 1 220 707
    - Definately replace this.

    11 - x2 - 25 11 1 220 439

    12 - x1 - 25 11 1 220 379

    13 - x1 - 25 11 7 501 309

    14 - x2 - 25 11 1 220 243
    - These little rubber things stabalize the selector rod joint from moving around, very important for tight linkage.

    15 - x1 - 25 11 1 220 199

    16 - x1 - 07 11 9 932 863

    19 - x1 - 25 11 1 434 194
    - This isn't a washer. it's like a little squishy thing. Get it damp with oil before putting it in between the selector rod joint and selector shaft.

That's everything. Repalce all that, add a different shift lever, and you're linkage is fresh and perfect!

You may have a hard time getting #3 off - also called the bitch clip. It'll work best if you take off the tranny mounts and tilt the engine back so you have more room up top.

If you have any other quesitons, dont hesitate to ask! :D

Wow, great reply. Thanks! I didn't even realize I left the selector rod in that list. That certainly helps reduce the cost.

The UUC kit looks nice, with with the fancy bushings and all, but I don't think I can justify the cost. I'm hoping the stock parts will feel "good enough", particularly relative to what it is now.

One more question: if I buy from one of these cheaper online places, will I get the same parts as if I order from a dealer, or are the OEM "replica's" that possibly aren't as good? I'm looking at sites like realoem.com, bimmerzone.com, etc..

      Thanks.

If you call a place like Pacific BMW, and give them all the part numbers, it should be cheap enough.

Any place that you can give BMW Part numbers to, and get the part should be a good enough source.

I don't know of any remade parts. And, if you came across any, I can't imagine the price difference would be that far off.

Instead of the UUC kit, you could try doing something like jordan, and fabbing somethin to go in there. But, the rubber would probably be fine. ;)

Thanks again Sean. I'm going to email this parts list to a dealer and see what they can do. I'll probably try Circle BMW first, since they're a bit closer to me and I've ordered from them before. They're generally competetive with Pacific., if not better.

BTW, I called UUC and asked if they'd sell just the delrin carrier bushings. They said no.

You can, their site is just a royal BITCH to navigate.

            Here's what to do:

            1. Go to: http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/
            2. Then click the "Buy Online" button at the top of the screen
            3. Click "List all items iin this catagory"
            4. Go to page 3, and look for: Delrin Carrier Bushings - ROUND

Then just buy them there. Maybe they were being stupid or something? lol

Thanks for the info. Ironically, I saw several people saying you could buy them, so just 10 minutes ago I called them the guy said they do have it, so I ordered one.

              $25 + $6.72 shipping = $31.72 Ouch.

Plus, they don't have *all* the bushings. They list only about 6 or 7 parts I think.

I emailed wayne saying I'd like to support his site and order from him, but I couldn't figure out exactly which parts are in the kit, and which extra I would have to order. I got back a nice email asking me to clarify a few things, and I followed up, but didn't hear back.

                          Go here: http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html_pr...hifter_nav.htm
Then click on "parts in detail" on the left, then click on "Delrin Carrier Bushings" on the top. They show an animation and claim the stock rubber bushing gives 12.5 degrees of play.

Also see Jordan's thread on how he made a $2.00 fix.

I got a fax from Circle BMW. Their prices are all more expensive than the numbers I got quoted from realOEM.com. (I posted them earlier in this thread). Circle is about 10-20% higher on each part.

Even worse, the guy scratched out 5 of the part numbers, and wrote in a new one. WTF? He had my VIN number so he was trying to do the right thing, but now I don't know who to trust, him or realeom.com

What a pain in the ass. I just want a kit that has all these parts.

EDIT: It looks like all of his part numbers line up with realoem.com when I enter my vin. I was using a car from a few months off and they are different. There is only one of his part numbers that I can't figure out, and that's #6, the plastic cup. He gave me 25111469397.

I just called Pacific BMW and checked 5 of the most expensive items, and they're definitely cheaper than Circle BMW. Good bye Circle.
