Cost to change alternator and fluids in E30?

Hey so I just want to know if there’s a website that shows what the average cost of a certain repair would be so that I don’t get scammed or something of the sort, and about how much on average does an alternator change go for? Thanks

Pick up a phone (remember phones?) and ring 3 mechanics for a quote.

Changing an alternator is pretty easy, I’d suggest DIYing. The search function on here/google will yield a step-by-step process. Only need basic tools too.

And when you say fluids do you mean just coolant? I hate dealing with that mess so I’d probably call a few shops (as mentioned above) and shop the rate. Most things in life are negotiable. I got a full set of 17” tires for $298 out the door this weekend ;)

Thanks for the info, and by fluids I just meant everything like oil, brake, coolant, all that kind of stuff since the car has been sitting for over a year

Depends quite a bit on your location and other variables, etc. Chances are the shop is going to find more stuff that needs to be done (hoses, fuel lines, etc).

I'd be surprised if you could get all your fluids and alternator changed for less than $600, which is about $400 more than it would cost to do yourself.

Also you probably need to change the timing belt and water pump if the car has been sitting for over a year which is a more involved job.

Easily a 6 hour job if me or Sebo is around. We are really good at watching other people do work.
