    CF sunroof fitment

Alright, well I installed my sunroof today and it fits like balls. I have a used two piece gasket and apparently its thinner than the one the previous owner of the sunroof had because there are gaps between my seals and the roof of the car.

Ryan's car seemed to have a much thicker, one piece gasket. Is this what I should be buying for my car?

Here are some of my fitment:

I personally used the 1 piece gasket and it fit a bit better then the 2 piece...yet everybody recommends the 2 piece one, no idea as to why.

So what's the deal with the 1-piece unit? I got the same roof, so fitiment would be identical. Mine came with the 2-piece glued to it, but there's a 1/4" gap on each side at the seams. I like the idea of a 1-piece a lot better. Any reason I can't use it despite my original roof panel in the car wearing a 2-piece seal?

I don't understand why BMW makes a 1 piece and a 2 piece gasket available. Is one better than the other? If a 2 piece is used should the shorter go up front, back? Does it matter?

The shorter is supposedly the front on the 2 piece.

That sells the 1-piece unit for me right there.

Aren't you running the 2 piece? I have one on my panel, and there's 1/4" gaps on both seams. I realize the water isn't 100% sealed by this gasket, but you have to at least try. Unless your soapy seats were caused by another reason - context of conversation led me to think you blamed the gasket.

The gap isn't between the 2 gaskets, its between any given part any the roof itself.

O.K. - would having the supposedly thicker 1 piece gasket solve that?

Perhaps. I don't know anybody with the gasket that has confirmed if its thicker or not though.
