    3.73 LSD in Eta.

This has been discussed but i would like to here what some new and old members have to say about it.

I might end up putting a 3.73 LSD into my eta "if" that sound i am hearing is infact the 2.93 going out.

Talked to my local mechanic and he said i might have a flat spot on one of the bearins as whenever im going about 5-10 mph i hear it loud and gets really loud when i take a turn its kinda like a whining and roaring sound coming from the left rear of the car.

What are the pro's and con's of this swap?

    I have it.

    PROS:

    -BUZZ BOMB!
    -obviously better acceleration!
    -limited slip baby!

    CONS:

-highways are no fun. cruising at 80 is about 3k IIRC
    -first gear, basically useless

Just the obvious ones. In my opinion I would stick with the 2.93 or 3.25 if you can find it. I am going back to the 2.93 LSD iI picked up and am rebuilding. Then selling the 3.73 LSD.

    Just my sporadic thoughts! ;)

The 3.73 in an eta is a little too extreme. I've been running a 3.73 for about 4 years in my eta. As said above, 1st gear is pretty much useless. You do turn a lot of revs on the freeway, but you eventually get used to it. Here is a pic of my eta with the 3.73 freeway rpms:

3.46 lsd is my suggestion, its about as short as you'd want to go without making the car annoying on the freeways. I had one in mine and loved it, best mod I did for the car.

BTW, it sounds like your describing a wheel bearing problem not a diff. bearing. If it gets louder or quieter when you transfer the weight of the car in one direction or the other, then its most likely a wheel bearing.

If you dont drive a lot on the freeway do it, in the city and the twisties you will love it. Just depends on how fast you drive (100+) and if high rpms on the freeway annoy you. Just drive around for awhile without using 5th.

Does 3k rpm on the highway really feel that buzzy? I mean that's what 'i's turn...I can't imagine an eta feeling that different.

                ..

3.25 for mild, 3.46 is the most I would go. I have a 3.25 in my eta track car, good on acceleration, but not a buzzbomb on long straights.

Goes up hills like its a cake.

Thats very true since i have ridden in your car and it wasnt that loud.

I think what i will do is replace the two rear bearings since i have two brand new ones (thanks Nate!) then go from there, for this i will goto a local mechanic as i dont want to deal with it right now.

Their definition of buzzy is probably not the same as yours =]. ETA owners aren't used to a lot of RPM's and visually the "short" ETA tach makes it seem like the engine is buzzy compared to what they're used to. To me, none of the 325's are really buzzy after driving a 318 or M3.

It does not feel buzzy, just odd driving constantly at such "high" RPM!

Well, it sounds like I made a good choice on getting my 3.25 LSD!

For those of you with the 3.73 in your ETA, what is your top speed?

According to my speedo (don't know exactly how accurate that is), 124mph at 5450rpm (just shy of the 5mpg mark).
