    Shifting Replacement Parts

    I recently got an 85' 325e that's in fairly good condition. One of the more annoying problems is that the shifting is SUPER sloppy. Which parts would be needed in order for it to be feeling tight again?



    Another e30 driver guessed that the following parts would need to be ordered from the diagram above:

    x2 [#10] 25111221243 - O-Ring
    x2 [#11] 25111220199 - Spacer Ring
    x2 [#8] 25111209078 - Spacer Ring
    x1 [#9] 25111220379 - Circlip
    x1 [#12] 07119902293 - Circlip
    x1 [#7] 25111204422 - Stop Buffer



    He also guessed that the following parts would be needed from this diagram:

    x1 [#4] 25111207744 - Ball Cup Lower
    x1 [#3] 23411466112 - Lock Ring

    Is there anyone out there that has definite information on which parts I'll need to buy in order to make the shifting feel more tight?

            I have a metal console and even after replacing all of the shifter bushings and clips it's still sloppy. ymmv

                There is about 1/2" to 3/4" of play side to side on the shifter, the only thing that changed was how the shifter doesn't rub against the console in R after the change.

                  mm..well I'm getting 1-2 inches of play right now in any gear, so maybe it'll help that. Do you know anything that'll help it for sure?

                    Maybe switch over to the newer style console ? But you got an 88 so it's probably got that , maybe bushings will do more good on your car. I had a shop do all of mine because tranny was out for a new clutch etc..

                      I asked my BMW mechanic and he had me replace #14. He said it gets wore out also. I did a complete, well mostly complete rebuild last weekend. Feels GREAT!

                          Mine did this too, after i put in the rebuild kit.

                            AKG motorsport sells pic 1 part 1 in a delrin/aluminum form for 2002, but should work for older e30s too.

                            Picture 2 Part number 6 for both aluminum shift carrier and sheet metal shift carrier shifters wear out on the little pegs that stick out of the shift linkage rod. Mine has worn to the point where my shifter has about 4 inch play left to right before entering the reverse or 5th gear gates.

                              you must have forgotten the rubber mounts that secure the sheet metal console to the transmission, plus its the linkages fault, not the console


                              edit, we posted at the same time

                              but get those akg solid thingers and that should work
