    Turbo setup questions...

Ok so i am making early plans for my turbo set-up that i am planning to put in my 90 325is later on. some of my questions are:

-What size intercooler will fit with the stock bumper or the m-tech2 bumper?

-Where can i find some turbo manifolds to buy?

-What turbos would you guys recomend that will have the least lag possible and are good for up to 500hp

-What size piping would you guys recomend?

Any other suggestions you guys might have?

    thanks,

    Luke

Starion intercoolers seem to fit well.

Build a custom manifold or get Pro-Turbo's manifold adapter.

A great turbine to get would be a hybrid T4/T3

Charge pipes around 2" and exhaust 3"

sorry i tried doing a search, but it is very complicated to get a accurate search here. I am used to searching for content in the titles of the threads. I find that way easier. You have any tips on how to search here?

btw, thanks for the good info

i agree we should make a sticky for turbo's....they are becoming more and more popular for the m20

Yeah we need a sticky on this topic, or get back the Forced induction forum. :\

            Forgot to add suggestions.

O-ring your head if you're gonna remove it to do some work on the engine.
If you can afford Raceware head studs buy them.
Never had experiences with copper head gaskets, so im not sure there.
Lower CR pistons, if they're in the budget

At least these will help you a lot in sustaining hight levels of boost.

As fuel goes, 24 - 31lbs injectors will be needed but this depends on how much boost you're planning to run. A 12:1 FMU is the way to go IMO forget all those RRFPR, they dont work for turbo setups. Consider switching to a higher flowing fuel pump.

Very important, de-pressurize your crankcase

SMT6 unit will be a great addition to the set-up since you can retard the ignition and the ability to add additional injector, among other things.

Myself i am running s50 24lbs injectors with a 12:1 FMU, Federal Mogul fuel pump, Victor Reinz oversized head gasket (not copper) o-ringed head @ 9psi and so far i have'nt heard the engine detonating or pinging. I'm waiting to finish modifying my intercooler so i can test out how 12psi feels like. I also need a new clutch, the old oem i have is starting to complain. Hope this helps

my head is almost out of my car....stupid different bolt type or it would be out now... i have raceware head studs that i am going to install, but you recommend getting the head o-ringed?

i can have it done no problem...what r the benefits

de-pressurize the crankcase-can you explain why this is necessary and what you have to do?

i am still gathering info on a turbo setup, but while i have my head off i am going to do the necessary upgrades.

Having your head o-ringed will help keeping the gasket in place at high levels of boost, i think the o-rings and the raceware studs are a good combo.

You gotta let the crankcase breathe or else you engine will start spilling oil everywhere it can.

Diego, I can't believe you still running AFM after the turbo!

AFM is meant to suck the air, not air pushed in, is your plate still alive? Have you tried running AFM before turbo?

So much air hits it, if the plate breaks, your motor is done!

Becareful man, I don't want your motor to suck broken pieces from plate. How does the car feel anyway?

                    :(

uhh, the plate isn't made out of cardboard.. I'd be really suprized if somebody managed to break one! at least I've never heard of that one before..

hahah yea.....all the plate will do is fold back.....unless maybe some small solid object hit it at extreme speeds and managed to rip it from the AFM mounting points, get it through the throttle body, down the intake manifold, past a valve, and into the engine...

                        uhh yea.

im running mine post-turbo as well.

I can't remember who was runing actually his AFm after the turbo like me and noticed a little improve in high RPM over the "before the turbo" position, so there will be there all the time until I change it for the MAF conversion. ;)

You know how AFM works? Look at AFM really close, and let me know what you think.
