The hardest part, I think, is the peddle swap, and getting in the master cylinder. There is not much room down there. It is much easier with the driver seat removed. The rest of it is nothing more that a clutch change. Make sure that you drain the automatic before you take it out, that bitch is heavy when you are on your back. Also go on and change the trans fluid in the 5-speed before you put it in the car.

besides changing the trans fluid, I would also change the shift detent spring plate, output flange seal, and selector rod seal. these are a pain in the ass inside the car, and outside the car, it's cake.

(I just did it, and just finished. yeah, I'm preparing for bimmerfest.)

I didn't find swapping the pedal box difficult. I did have the seat out of the car and it probably took less than 45 minutes to swap out the pedal box and install the clutch master cylinder.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yup, the pedals are just one bracket with everything attached. It's held in by four bolts. Can take less then 5 minutes if you know what you are doing.

The swap is cake, I could do it in a weekend (I did, actually), taking my time and putting in new parts.

                      New parts you should get:

Complete clutch kit from bavauto (you need all of this stuff and can't be the quality/price/shipping time)
                      Guibo
                      CSB
                      New driveshaft nuts and bolts
                      Master cylinder
                      Slave cylinder
Clutch hoses (metal and rubber), w/ fittings
                      Trans mounts w/ hardware
                      Reverse light switch
                      Trans-to-engine bolts

Wiring is simple, just 2 or three wires to mess with, all easy to get to. I forget exactly what needs done off the top of my head.

I spent some extra money and went through the dealer and bought every last nut and bolt, clips and brackets, grommets, etc.. brand new. It made the swap sooo nice, and the car feels brand new.

you can't swap pedal boxes in an airbag car.. but the pedal boxes on airbag cars are all the same anyway, so all you need to do is swap the pedals and put in the master.
