    Electric Fan for e30?

Well, the temperature is rising, and my A/C is functional again, so its time to look for a new electric fan. I removed the mechanical fan back in December, and rather than put another one on I am going to put an electric one in place.

Wondering what you guys are using. I still have my aux fan in front of the condenser, so I need a main 'puller' fan for the radiator. I don't mind installing a switch, but a thermostat controlled fan would work as well. My price budget is 75-100 bucks.

    TIA

just jump the aux fan to high, your car doesn't need anymore fans

after being on the freeway i hit traffic and it hit the 3/4 temp line. then i had to shut it down and sit on the side of the freeway for twenty minutes.

you better show me how to step it up.

the aux fan was fine for me w/o the added strain of the a/c. but i,too, have been stuck in traffic in the lincoln tunnel and had the car start to overheat. it was funny cause there was a new rx8 that was steaming under the hood but luckily traffic picked up and i was able to bring it down a bit.

and as far as putting an m42 switch in has nothing to do with me finding an electric fan for my car....

yeah, i blasted the heater, and when i started it back up it was at an acceptable level. and with the heater on (around 100 degrees outside, luckily i was going to a waterpark) the heat stayed at an appropriate level.

What CFM does anyone suggest if one was to run an electric fan.

you already have an electric fan. use the M42 switch and make it so it only turns on the high speed. that's all there is to it. it will come on at 1/2 and cool down to 1/4

My dad has a fairly small fan on his 635 and it works pretty well... 12" I think.

I suggest a thin spal fan. There small one pull 1300 CFM.

                        16 inch Ultra Thin
                        2.05 inches thick
                        1378 cfm
                        $85.00 ea.

                        16 inch Mid-Performance Fan
                        Straight
                        1610 cfm
Mid-Performance fans are 2.48 inches thick.
                        $100.00 ea.

                        Available here

I'm sure you could find them cheaper if you looked around on the interwebs.

The fan switch DOES have something to do with you finding fans. You're looking for something to help keep the car cool... the m42 switch turns the aux fan on earlier. Make it so when it is supposed to come on low, it comes on high instead. I have my car like this and it NEVER gets hot. Even after running for an hour straight with 6 autox runs in there during that hour on an 85+ degree day. Get the switch, keep the mechanical fan off and youll be fine.

The aux fan is only enabled if A/C is selected. In high ambients it alone may be insufficient if you've removed the engine driven fan. Adding a 1600cfm (or more) electric fan and controlling it with an 80-82C thermoswitch would be the right solution.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I went to Autozone, bought their 12" or 14" universal fan and a thermostat kit for a total of like $80. Takes 10 minutes to install and has a fully adjustable thermostat, with a probe that goes onto/into your radiator.

It's been working on my 325e for about 2 years, so I installed one in my 325is a few days ago. I don't have A/C in either car, so I installed it as a pusher in front of the radiator.

I can do anything I want in the front of the engine, with no fan there. There's a LOT of room. Sometimes I invite friends and have a cookout right in front of the timing belt, we play football and stuff in the big open space behind the radiator.
