did you shim the driver's side motor mount? Did you use e36 motor mount brackets? e28 motor mounts? i'm curious about this, especially since the non-vanos motors don't have those fins in the first place (no shaving needed)
Please share with us which engine mounting and alloy mounting did you use for that....
remember we all love e30. E30 for life...forever please share with US.
As far as I know VANOS engine also came with fins manifol.
then i used a m20 motormount on the passenger side and a e28 motormount
on the drivers side.
I'll take some pictures today and post them here :)
The only downside to this solution is that you need a e36 or e34 gearbox
the e30 gearbox will not work.
the m20 motor mount explains why it fits, it's a bit lower than the e28 mounts, but the last thing i'd want to do is lower the motor with the oil pan being so low and the exhaust having to clear the subframe
i'm running a getrag 260 (e30 325i tranmission) in two cars without problems
Nando, the brake booster is easy. It's the custom oil pan that you should be worrying about. ;)
i've seen pictures of it done though, and it's really not a big deal. you basically need an E34 M50 oil pan and an ix pan, a hacksaw and a tig welder. Engine mounts I'm not sure of, but I've done swaps before that required custom mounts so that shouldn't be a huge issue. the engine will bolt right onto the tranny, the ix uses the same transmission as all other E30s, except for the ouput shaft of course.
The real question is, will I ever have $1500-$2000 lying around to do a motor swap. I'm thinking not anytime soon, I'd rather spend $1500 on a 5 speed!
