what shocks with IE stage 3 race springs

Well, i want to get alot stiffer springs on my car than the current H&R sports, and i think im gonna go with the Ireland Engineering stage 3 race springs.

I talked to stu about it, and he said they recommend Koni adjustables rather then Bilstein sports. I already have Bilstein sports, so if i can just run the springs with those it would be a huge cost saver for me.

price of springs would be 250, and i believe konis are about 500 or 600 dollars.

So basically im asking, would bilstein sports work with IE Stage 3 race springs?

    thanks,
    Jon

yes. I ran bilstein sports with the IE stage3's. I loved it and will run the same setup on my next E30.

What are the rates for the IE Stage 3 spring set anyway? I currently have H&R Sports.

I have Bilsteins with the Stage 3's and I say go with Koni SA's. The Bilsteins are fine for most things but if there are rough roads around itll get kinda bouncy. Good luck

I have drivin in e30's with bilsteins/IE3's and my car has Koni's/IE3's and I think it is worth saving up a few more bucks for the Koni's. The adjustability is a very nice thing to have.

I have not drivin an e30 with bilsteins/IE3's , but I have the koni/IE3's and LOVE the setup the rebound matches the springs incredibly well. The ride is 8/10 stiff but worth it on the Smooth Twistys

Whoops, i checked their website (www.bmw2002.com) again and its actually 275. sorry about that.

Thanks for the input guys. looks like ill be saving up for some konis. I just wanted to make sure that they would be worth the price, and it sounds like they are.

on the website it says they work best with 325's and M3's. they probably fit on the the 318is fine, but you may not get as much or a drop. Im not sure if it would affect the handling characteristics though?

its funny how the stock Bilstein sports have a better reputation and cost more than the best koni damper here in the uk. Koni are very poor quality and seem to end very quick. Koni are are also only adjustable on rebound only, but the Bilstein sports adjust in both directions with a clever valve system which cannot be changed by the usser with the turn of a knob. I also like the upside down damper design of bilstein.

But as for what dampers, dont know.
have you asked IE for their recommendation?

stock bilstein sports? I didn't think any E30s came from the factory with bilsteins..

konis are nice, they also come with the same lifetime warranty that bilsteins do.. I've never heard anywhere that konis were cheap. bilstein sports are also not adjustable AFAIK (though they can be revalved), maybe what you guys get for sports in the UK is different from the US.

Well its hard to explain but the UK Spec 325i Sport, yes thats Sport came with Bilstein upside down dampers. What im trying to say is that the Sports/Sprints adjust automaticaly on impact then the rebound is different for every compression so you cannot adjust them in the same sense as the konis but they are better. I will admit that the sports/sprints are much harsher than Koni on small impacts but at high speed is where the bilsteins are miles appart from Koni.

The problem with the bilsteins is there isnt enough rebound dampening. Id like somthing adjustable just because i dont want to get revalved BIls. and have to deal with teeth shattering ride ALL the time. Get whatever floats your boat, i like my bilsteins a lot but on rough surfaces they dont do it for me.
