    shaving single-mass m20 flywheel

what are the specs? it says in bentley that bmw did not provide that info. what is the spec on "A" flange in bentley? If anybody shaved the m20 singlemass flywheel before, what were the specs? The back side is the part that can be shaved right?

you need a step on the clutch surface. there is a spec for it, the bentley is wrong - any shop that can surface flywheels should have a book with BMW specs in it.

to make it lighter, yes you can shave the back side. the big "rib" of material is basically just there for added weight.

nando, on mine, there isn't really a step, but a lip type of step.. more of a 1/2mm elevation. Jordan, so there really isn't a specific # you guys do it by, but weight? so, If i'd get it down to ~14lb it's safe?

yeah, it's not supposed to be very big. no step at all, and your clutch won't be able to grab the flywheel, too large of a step and you won't be able to disengage the clutch. so make sure the shop has either a spec book or knows what they are doing.

My flywheel is only shaved flat with the ring gear. I haven't seen images with it going below that point.

323 single mass flywheel is 13lbs stock, it doesnt result in it when shaved. Didnt think they would bother making a whole different m20 flywheel when the clutch is the same size?
Just a little project im working on

Oh Gee, thanks for the heads up Mr. WA, didn't realize that the search button wouldn't update all the old posts to current dates if I choose to post in a searched thread. WIERD
