i took mine off a while back, it just filled with oil and got in the way when i wanted to do anything.

does it serve any important purpose anyways?

I can tell you this, Luke and my cars (87IS's) have a modified undertray that is becoming super rare due to the ductwork for the brakes. anything else would be similar to the picture above.
Mine was prestine up until about a month ago when I hit a retread in Macon, not only half of it is prestine. Sux.

so the one for luke is for an 87 is? I assume the one I own was for an 87is because the 87is didn't have brake ducts but still a slightly differ valence than earlier models

The 87 Is did have brake ducts. If it has this fairing, it had ducts.

And it was way different, it was only added on here in the US. They were put on after the cars were delivered here. The undertray looks somewhat the same, but the sides are removeable from the bottom, they actually screw into the brake ducts. Let me see If i can find a picture.

Well, this is the side of it in the wheel well, do you see how there is a cut out for the duct? that duct actually runs along the undertray and fits into the lover section of the valance, where the slots are under the fog lights. I doubt the fit will be the same if you didn't order this one, however, I am sure it would work. Still looking for a better pic.

i see, the duct looks self cut is that true or was it precut from the factory?

It didn't come from the factory like that, it was cut here in america by the company that added the 87 fairing, or by BMW NA.
