    Water Pump

I was hearing what I thought sounded like a loose belt. So I took into the shop today, and they said if it was a belt, there would probably be a squealing noise as well (which there isn't). They diagnosed it as me needing a new water pump, which I am probably due for. I guess I just didn't realize they made that kind of noise when they wore out. Does this sound right to you guys? I don't want to blow $250 on something that wasn't the problem...

    Thanks.

I can't tell you for sure that your problem is the water pump, but if it is, you're going to want to replace the timing belt and tensioner while your in there.

thats what he quoted me at the shop...I've never done one myself, I'd probably screw it up. I could probably get a buddy to help me out though, if he's not busy.

Let me worry about that though. All i want to know is if the water pump is likely the cause of the noise I am hearing.

Don't blow $250. Do it yourself - it'll cost you like $50 for both the timing belt and water pump. Just buy a Bentley if you don't have one so you have a reference for the job.

do you need to change the Timing belt if you take the water pump out?
Anyway you know when the water pump is gone as it leaks alot of water.

Yea im pretty sure if you take the tension off the belt you will need to get a new one. There not expensive anyways, its cheap insurance.

If you're going to replace that water pump, just replace the timing belt too. Chances are, it already needs to be replaced, sinec usualy the water pump and timing belt need replacement at the same time.

That, and why not do it? If you're doing all that labor, might as well do it only once, rather than twice.
