    What does this mean?

    The little colored block lights underneath the speedo and rpm......the lights go from red to yellow to green. WHen my car is running the yellow light is on? Damn, I need a bentley......

    it's the service indicator light. it can mean your car needs an inspection I or II, or it can mean that you need to change your oil. they also come on if the batteries in the SI board go dead. it's easy to reset, but it's different depending on the year of your car. do a search on google for service indicator reset, you should find it.. I think there's also a guide on http://www.bmwe30.net

      SI lights

      the lights are basically just reminders right? if you're religious about preventive maintenance schedules, you can just ignore the lights right? or even just cover them up so they're not so annoying?

        why, resetting them takes 5-10 seconds, literally.

          assuming that your SI batteries are ok.. and mine are not. i've tried resetting them, but they won't. and i dont feel like taking the gauge cluster out just to change the batteries.

            I can pull clusters out in 10-15 minutes, its not that hard.

              YEah, It says "Oil Service" above the yellow light but I changed my oil and filter a 1,000 miles ago. :?

                yeah.. you have to reset it. it doesn't do it by itself.
