    question for all you granny tranny-ers

    my sister just picked up an 88' 325 and i was wondering if there is a light that is supposed to go on to let you know what gear you are in, if so we may need a new light... thanks in advance

    I think there is supposed to be, but I haven't seen a car that had it functioning...

      I had an auto 325iS at one point. It came with the bulb dead... The shift light bulb is easily replaced

        mine doesn't work. it's pretty easy to tell what gear I'm in though, so I never worried about it.

            Yeah there is a small bulb under the panel that needs to be changed, and yes they are usually dead when you get the car.

                  When I got mine the light didn't work. I pulled the shift surround piece off and the wired for the light were cliped.

                    Wow, my light always worked.

                    Anywho, just take out the shifter cover thing, and the bulb is real easy to get at IIRC.
