I'm going to get a Audi stubby and mount it on the centre of the roof at the back.

Look for pictures of Josh's (Mr. Anderson) car. He has a stubby antenna that is only about 1 1/2" tall.

I don't like stubby antennas....I'd rather keep it stock and just disconnect the motor....I hate shit sticking up like that.

E36 cabbie antenna base, 318ti grommet, eBay stubby screw-on top.

For some reason the grommet doesn't sit flush, I haven't bothered to deal with it yet. And yes, my car is filthy right now.

I actually get surprisingly half-way decent AM reception with it as long as I'm not under a bridge or something. I never listen to the radio except traffic in the mornings anyways.

It will fit flush just have to push it down to catch the seal. Just make sure you line up the angle right, its a pain to move once snaped on.

i think there antennas you guys are talking about are the FUBA's. They are on mk2 gti's, is300's, mini's, E36 verts, etc.

Surf around on vwvortex...they make and sell all kinds of stubby thread on antennas for that antenna base.

I remember a popular mod being the honda s2000 antenna and antenna base.

My old ride I had a clarion deck, and ran my ipod to it. Somehow the deck would only send power to the antenna motor when I turned on my fm radio. So, my factory antenna would be in the down position unless I actually had the FM radio mode on....

Aftermarket decks sometimes do have a seperate "turn on" wire, one for external amplifier and one for antenna.

Man and to think I just removed the drivers trim along the doors, seat belt bracket, rear seats, trunk lining etc to remove the power antennae and wires. Got the factory amp out of there while I was at it....

I'm going to weld up the antenae hole when it gets painted. Until then I'll fill the hole with a solid plug/grommit. Stereo systems are just extra weight :)

                              What antenna?

Cap off the antenna hole and hook up the wire to the rear window defogger. The reception is perfect.

To everyone else: If you buy a real deck it will only extend the power antenna when you listen to the radio, thus maintaining reception and looks at the same time.
