damn..thats a really good idea. that's how my Volvo wagon is set up and I never even thought of it.

Volvo uses the same application of the defroster on the side windows of the cargo compartment for radio reception...so the 850 and V-series wagons don't use antenni.

Too late for me...I already for my car repainted.

Did you diode isolate the defrost circuit cause I'm guessing that 12 volts into the antenna input on the radio isnt such a hot idea.

I did a write up for this like two years ago. It was back when I lived in an apartment and parked in a parking garage. I'll never do that shit again. Anyways, here it is. I have two other antennas for it now. I use the stubby one and the OEM z3 antenna just sits there.

I eliminated the defogger by disconnecting it at both sides. I never use it but if I did, there is a simple way to isolate the antenna from the defroster circuit. You just can't use both at the same time. You can find a lot of information about this with a quick google search.

Has anyone swapped an antenna from an E30 M3? How difficult is it? What can I use to cover the old antenna hole besides a hood stop?

To everyone else: If you buy a real deck it will only extend the power antenna when you listen to the radio, thus maintaining reception and looks at the same time.

It has been a few years since I put it on - but I think it was a direct fit. I may have purchased a new rubber gasket, but that would have been an E30 part. Just buy a complete E36 antenna with base and plug still attached and you should be fine.

No, don't buy the e30 gasket... it won't work.

                                This should help:
