What to use to Recharge NiCad Batteries?

I just bought 2 Nickel-Cadmium AA batteries from Radio Shack (PN: 23-191) to replace my SI batteries and I need to get a full charge in them before i solder then onto the board. I was thinking of using my optical mouse recharger but that takes Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. I need some other options on charging these batteries other than going out and spending $40 for a charger. Anything helps...

The NiMH charger won't charge NiCads.

Look at Walmart or the drug store for a charger. They make chargers you can put 4 AA batteries in and just plug them in the wall. I've got a Rayovac Charger I use.

I replaced mine and did not read that they had to be charged first. Well the SI board has yet to start working and my Speedo seems to be affected by this. After a few minutes of driving the speedo usually starts working

Ya your suppose to recharge the batteries before you put them in, as i understand it they are basically dead until you give them a full recharge. Ya i know the NiMH charger won't charge the NiCad's.

I was thinking of buying a charger...using it then returning it.

I know that now, but they are already sodiered to the board so I guess since I have three more boards I will try again

Or just desolder 'em and charge them. Don't be lazy. :P

Is the SI board independant of the ECU? I have the m50tu now so will that affect it>?

given the wiring diagrams I have been given the engine has no clue what the SI board is doing.
                    Im now E30less.

The board will recharge the batteries over time. I have sucessfully replaced batteries back in the day without charging them.

so after time the car will recharge the batteries on there own? hum...that would be alot easier than buying a charger

You can buy off-the-shelf NiCAD battery chargers for ~$20. I got one from Best Buy to recharge my digicam batteries.
