    Speedometer trouble

One day my speedometer just stopped working. I replaced it with a used part.

Well now it works but only if it wants to, there is no variable that makes it work or not work it is completely crazy!

Sometimes after driving a few mile it begins to bounce up, like five or six times, then it works until I have ot shut the car off again. Aftre this it usually goes back to sleep and does not work again for a while.

I want to get this thing working again so I now if I am speeding or not!

    I cannot afford another ticket!

check the sensor on your diff, the wires get brittle and can break. also make sure your speedo is grounded properly.

I just chaged diffs, but I will check the actually wires. Is there a common ground for the cluster? where does the speedo ground?

Anyone who has driven the same car for more than a week should be able to figure out MPH based on which gear they're in and RPMs. My speedometer hasn't worked since December, but I still always know how fast I'm going to within 2 MPH or so.

Are you sure the new speedo you got was good? The gears strip in them all the time, and it will cause the problems you are having.

All my gearing is different now with the m50. I do not like to explain myself in such ways.

I picke d it up used and have since ordered another one form a guy on here, it also is used, he only wanted 10 bucks for it, so if this does not work i am buying a new cluster and speedo and the other gauges as well form the dealer.

Ouch, I wouldn't like to see the bill for a new cluster and gauges from the dealer.

dizamn. I can't afford 350. Mine is broken too. Damn Cheap-ass BMWs! :P Haha. kidding. Seriously, for such a nice car though, my car has alot of ghetto in it. Maybe someone left it parked next to a a '68 impalla too long or something.
