    Installing the Ryan G splitter

so I recently bought a late style splitter for my IS lip. It is brand new, however it did not come with any hardware.

Can someone tell me what kinda hardware is used to attatch the splitter without worrying about it flying off while driving?

    thanks.

I've had one of these before.....here's how I installed it.

    1. Carefully remove the valance from your car.

    2. Get yourself some C-clamps and lay the splitter on a flat level surface then place your valance on top of it.

    3. Prior to tightening the clamps, line up the edges (looking at it from the front) so its even all the way across. Make sure you leave enough overlap between the splitter and the valance so you have some material to attach the two together.

    4. When everything is lined up to your liking, tighten the clamps down and use a drill (small bit) and drill completely through both parts. Make sure you've got some blocks of wood underneath first....I'd hate to see you drill holes in your nice concrete :-o

    5. With the holes drilled, take some short bolts with nuts and lock washers and bolt everything together. I did so that the screwhead was pointing down (towards the ground when on the car).

    6. With the two pieces together, re-attach your valance to your car. If any of your plastic clips that hold the valance to the car look questionable, stop by your local BMW parts guy and get some more.....they're pretty darn cheap.

    7. With valance and splitter installed, stand back, admire and enjoy.

Edit: Two points. You could use rivets to attach the two together if you have the proper tools. Also, pay particular attention to those plastic clips that attach your valance to the car. With the splitter installed, when driving at higher speeds there will be additional force being applied against the valance. The plastic clips holding it in place were not originally intended to support the valance AND the force of a splitter. I learned this lesson the hard way when I had one of these splitters and installed it on my car without considering the condition of those plastic clips. Long story short.....it was sucked off my car at 70mph where I ran it over, embedding one of the bolts into a tire (which I had to replace) and the semi behind me ran it over as well.....crushing it to pieces.

thanks for the advice. I have all new clips so i think i should be okay. But i'll think about reinforcement.

I dont have any of the nuts and bolts, i think the seller forgot to pack them in. How many drille holes did you make, and do you know what size bolts you used?

        thanks.

The seller didn't forget hardware....he sells just the splitter. Its up to you on how you want it attached to your car. As for the number of bolts....I can't remember the exact number I used, but I started with one at each end and one in the middle. Once those were set I added a few more to each side to where I felt it was adequately attached to the valance.

            o ok.

In the ad, he said "all nuts and bolts included" so i assumed there were hardware that came with the splitter.

all you need are a bunch of self tapping screws. that might cost you $4 depending on how crazy you get. get new clips too, you need 10 of them.

The seller does include hardware, ask him.

I guess Ryan started to include hardware with his splitters some time after I purchased mine (which was more than a year ago). My apologies for creating any confusion.

Make sure everything's bolted up tight. Ask Jordan how he did his.

"See, we're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anyone wanna see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired."
