Drive shaft shortening - 2 shops say BMW shafts can't be

So I'm doing this m30 swap right - I need my drive shaft shortent. Actually the shaft I was planning on using is out of a '88 m3. It need 4 cm whacked off the front section.

I've taken it to two shops and NOONE will touch it - they say it's imposiable to do - someting about the flanges are "fusion" welded to the shaft.

1.) Anyone know a shop in CA that will do a BMW drive shaft?

2.) Has anyone else run into this?

    Thanks!

      Call Driveline Service of Portland.

Most local shops won't touch BMW driveshats.

Supposedly there is a shop in Atlanta that does them, Kyle told me about it as his mechanic had the driveshaft for his m30 swap done there.
I've got there phone number somewhere in my PM box I'll try to find it.

For over 50 years, Cannon Engineering has been designing and manufacturing drive line parts for every imaginable purpose. Founded in 1941 by long time hot rodding world record holder Ted Cannon, we have continued to maintain his steadfast commitment to quality and innovation. Through the years we have also adapted and expanded to accommodate the drive line needs of most vehicles.

Using its own engineering talent, Cannon Engineering has designed specialized driveshaft equipment for machining and tooling. This allows us to create driveshafts to exacting custom specifications. Ours is the official driveshaft of the Batmobile! The first driveshaft balanced on our long multi-piece balancer was the 20 foot stretch driveshaft for the limo used in the Isuzu commercial (it was the one with the hot tub in the trunk). Cannon Engineering has also supplied Hollywood with driveshafts used in Wayne's World, Jaws 2 and The Dukes of Hazard.

We have thousands of driveshafts in stock. Also check out our complete line of hard to find parts for many vehicles including early Cadillacs, Volvos, British and Japanese imports, Alfa-Romeos, Chrysler Imperials, Mercedes-Benz (including 600 series), Ramblers and more. Contact one of our parts technicians today and find out about our extensive inventory of universal joints and slipyokes. The professionals at Cannon Engineering also have specialized experience with difficult to repair driveshafts including BMW, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Rambler, etc.

WE HAVE DRIVESHAFTS FOR MOST OF THESE MODELS
              Chevrolet - BMW - Toyota - Nissan - Cadillac - Buick
Ford Bronco - Jeep - Chevy Blazer - Mazda - Merkur

770-499-9804, 770 242 9365, 770 427 4898, just call and ask for shortening and rebalance price. It's one of those 3 numbers but he didn't remeber which one.

North Hollywood is approximately 80 miles from Santa Barbara.

                    good work batman!

Ok - all these shops want to sell me on replacing the universal joints - when do you know a universal joint is going bad? How long can a driveshaft last with a bad universal?

if you could get it to Georgia, to me possilbly, I could take it to the shop here, they charge 70.00, and I would take it there just to get you a better deal than 600.00!!

My buddy that did the m30 swap had Driveline in CA do his, said it cost 600.00. He tried to get me to send mine there, bu tI found that the 85 318i Auto DS worked for the m50 swap.

BTW: Shipping would probably be a problem, but just mark it and seperate it.

The original or the one form the 90s? thought Dodge made the one for the 90s batmobile, similar to the one on a Viper ;)

Try Powertrain industries in Orange County. They rebuild BMW shafts and certainly could do what you're asking. Will they? that's another issue.
