    noise from fresh clutch

I recently had a new clutch installed but when the gearbox is in neutral and the clutch pedal is up there is a rattling noise coming from the clutch/flywheel. Any idea what this could be? This wasn't the case before the recent engine rebuild & flywheel resurfacing.

    Thanks!

sounds like your TO bearing may have been installed wrong. I would say it's warn out, but if the whole clutch package is new I would go with poorly installed.

A mild rattle in neutral with the clutch engaged, that disappears when you depress the clutch pedal, is probably from the transmission input shaft and is nothing to be concerned about. The cause can be from wear in the input shaft, but even perfect input shaft bearings will rattle if a lightweight flywheel is fitted.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

yeah, it's pretty common on getrag transmissions. I saw this porsche at an autox once and his transmission was making the same rattle noise mine does at idle, I asked him if it had a getrag and he confirmed. "getrag rattle" is the term for it.

it may be that the lighter weight of the resurfaced flywheel has contributed some. it *could* be the TOB, but if it's working fine I would just leave it, unless you enjoy dropping the transmission.

My S50 car didn't make the Getrag noise, until I put my cams in. Now with the rough lopey idle it does it sometimes and I hate it. The B25 325e doesn't make his noise, thank god.

I've got the same problem. The car rattles when its in neutral and then when the clutch is pressed in the noise goes away.

                            Try an 8lb flywheel on a cam'd s50 and a g260 with 260k on it. It rattles a tad :)

Woohoo for a fresh trans goin in this winter.

mine sounds like a jar of marbles fucking exploded inside the bellhousing at idle...I'm SURE my lopey idle REALLY helps this too :p
