Does anything look horibbly out of place? + Intake Q.

First of all, i've noticed some various random custom stuff that the previous owner did in various parts of the car, can you guys take a quick gander at this picture and tell me if anything looks grossly out of place/wrong/curious? (i have full resolution if required..)

Second question, here is the K&N that was on the car when i got it, as you can see, it is kind of cramped, and i can't figure out a way i would make a CAI shield for it, what can i do about this? is this a custom mount?

    Thanks.

I don't think I have ever seen a K&N filter that grossly dirty in my life.

That filter/adapter/bracket is a BMP kit.

Everything else looks to be just fine.

i know, i've been meaning to clean it.

Whats the procedure for such things? just take it off and let it soak/spray it down? or what.

Also, would there be any advantage in getting a newer filter? this one seems to be pretty ghetto old school, or so it looks.

ialso noticed some custom wiring going to the window spray reservoir sensor. I'll get some pics in a bit.

Goto any auto parts store that carries K&N and ask for a cleaner/recharger kit. Follow instructions on the box.

the only thing that looks wrong is your missing heat sheild. as much as a heat sheild supposedly blocks hot air, it keeps your filter from getting muck all over it from the engine and environment.

i was thinking of tracking one of those down too, but doesn't it restrict airflow?

Also, there isn't really room for one, i mean, its already being cramped by the radiator hosing.

is there anything i can do to address this? I'd like to make a heatshield for it, (ala lukas style, or jordan's) but i can't imagine how i would fit it in there, nor how to go about making the proper measurements to align with the hood

You should just go back to a stock airbox and save your trouble. Intakes on E30's are only for the sound.

I realize that, and i love the sound it makes as is. THat said, I don't have the stock airbox (this came with the car), and don't really have the time ATM to track one down.

This is what i've got to work with for now so i'd like to make the best of it.

a heat sheild is going to be a hell of a lot less restrictive than that dirty ass filter you have on there.

Swisscheese airbox. :) Sounds basically the same.
