Ryan and I have ran into a few snags. The curent one being transmittion. We got a parts car to get the 5-speed out of, but turned out that the tranny was way shorter then the getrag 265 we were trying to replace. We also had prolbems with electrical, the wireing harness came from a auto, and we could not trick it into thinking it was in "park/neutral" The motor was also shipped/arrived with a bad crak sensor(not positive when it wend bad)M50 = Direct bolt in
M30 = A bitch and a half to install (I think George and Ryan would agree).
If it had been a m50 I was swaping in we could have had it done in a weekend or so.
My understanding is that the only difference between the motors is that the US version had a very restrictive cat. That was back in the day when cats sucked. So I think a high flow cat sould solve that prolbem and let the m30 flow as much as the eu version.M50=193

I could have done my m50 swap in a week, almost did but my LWF was two weeks late and my m10 was about to seize up.
I guess you guys are going to rip off the auto harness and redo it or what have you decided?
grab two Corvette (early c5) TB and make a custom inake manifold, you coudl pick up some pwr there if you plan to boost it, which there is no poin in a m30 unless you are.Comment

The drive shaft is fine - it's not getting cut again I can tell you that. It's just that the getrag 265 tranny is a lot longer than then 260/5 we tried to replace it with - so now we are getting another 265.Originally posted by rs4pro3That sucks about the driveshaft, so what are you doing? New shaft and shortened again?
Oh - what this "no point in do a m30 unless you do forced induction" ???Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?Comment

Just out of curiosity.. i saw on a webpage that in europe they had a 333i.. I'm assuming that would be an M30. Couldn't you just use parts off one of those puppies and make the whole thing plug and play?1988 325iC - "Betty" - Daily Driver/Project Car.
