How much would a manual conversion cost?

I see a bunch of threads in here about details of it....but since I'm not at that point yet, how much would it cost for a shop to do it all, do you think?

Can be done for $600 or less.

the cost of buying a manual E30......

ask someone how many hours it took to do the conversion, multiply by $70+ per hour then add surcharges and over-priced parts for stuff you could have new.

Just a guessimation: say it's only 20 hours of labor, and they charge you $500 for the transmission (probably way more they'd charge you) and just $200 in shop fees, misc parts, etc.

      That is $2100!

Shops that do them on common basis are 12 hours of labor.

            Okay then 12 hr x 60-85 -> $$$

            TMS is $85 IIRC, x 12 = 1020, + charges & parts

Maybe if you used all used parts. I spent about $500-600 alone on replacing the big wear parts so it was all fresh. Then add the tranny, driveshaft, pedals, etc. on top of that.

How much did it cost you total? Ballpark it if you can, my 84 eta is auto and I'm really deciding my options weather or not to change it or buy a later 80's e30 with a 5spd already in it.

I think around 1,200-1,300 but I did some nice upgrades to go along with it.

Would you reccomend it, and make the eta motor worth it? Or get an i model with a 5spd?

Personally, I would buy a 325i 5 speed instead of investing the time on an eta. It really depends on how attached you are to your car though. I could have just sold my car for another one that was 5 speed already but it was worth it to me to keep it. The way I saw it too, was that at my car's age it would be needing a new clutch anyways, and I would be spending most of this money no matter what...

im in the position where i have all the parts i need, plus new clutch and my LTW. i am just debating weather or not to try the swap myself, or take it to the shop. i dont have a lot of time on my hands, and I need a car for school/work.

do you have motor swap plans? if so, yeah its worth it, if not then buy an I

I's are not that fast either, which is why I don't consider them better at all, I have fucklots of fun in my eta, and swapping in my manual completely woke the car up.

the ETA is a hella fun engine once you open the exhaust/intake and chip it

325i intake manifold and throttle body help alot as well....

depends on your plan, only I car I personally would get is an 87, cause I like the early models better then the newer late models
