    Removing old engine... putting in another m20

    the engine I'm going to install is from an automatic.... my brother says there has to be something changed or pulled out from the automatic before it can be mated to the maual tranny I have.

    Is this true? Does the flywheel have to be changed?

    Yeah - you have to swap flywheels (and clutch assembly and stuff) and put a pilot bearing assembly in there.

    Are you doing it at a shop or what?

      yeah, my nephew's godfather has a shop... I took apart the engine myself to get it ready for pulling...

      we're pulling it today...

      just waiting for my new clutch, belts and other shit to come in... already changed the timing belt on the new engine


      so I need a new pilot bearing huh?

        Well, the crankshaft on the automatic engine isn't gonna have a pilot bearing in the end of it.

        I guess you could use your old one if it's in decent shape, but it's real cheap new.

          Just unbolt the auto tranny, torque converter, flywheel, etc. Disconnect all the tranny cooling lines. Disconnect the tranny fluid dipstick from the engine block. Then you should be set.

          Now would be a good time to replace your clutch, replace all the tranny seals (and the rear main engine seal, maybe oil pan gasket), all the good stuff.

            autos dont have flywheels... it is called a flex plate... so you arent changing the flywheel.... you are replacing the flex plate with a flywheel

            but yes that is all you have to do

              90 325is
              IE stage 3s and refeshed m20....

                whats wrong with the old engine.....maybe i could get some parts for my 2.7i buildup for my E.... :D

                  I paid 800 for an 80k engine

                  doing the clutch while I got the engine out
