The Z4 3.0 lever is great for just cruising around, but downshifting under high rpm loads can be a bit troublesome... which I why I think Rob sold it to me and went back to the Z3 1.9 lever.Originally posted by Grueliusand i do not know what bugg brakes are.Comment

UUC Evo with Delrin bushing upgrade from Turner. Nice reduction in throw and much of the slop is gone. After one drive in my car my bro got one for his '98 M3.
And I don't give a rats ass how much it costs. I can afford it.

I have the Z4 3.0L and I hated it at first. After a few weeks driving it and "breaking it in" I have gotten used to it and I don't mind it. 4th gear is where neutral usually is on a stock shifter.Comment

Sorry this is an old thread, I know.
I'm looking for a lever that's shorter in height (I know that all of these pretty much fit that requirement) and also a shorter throw, but I don't think I want something as short as the Z4 3.0 because people describe it as "just with a flick of a wrist". When I drive, I like THROWING it into gear, if that makes sense. I want the throw shorter, yes, but I still want some room to be able to throw it into place. What lever do you guys recommend?
Also, do all these levers have that notchy feeling that you guys describe? From what I've read, all I've heard about was the Z4 3.0 being notchy but didn't really hear to much about other levers.
I'm leaning towards the Z3 1.9 because the throws are relatively short and the knob height is at the highest but I might consider a new knob anyways. So the throw will feel sorta far with the long neck but still short because of the long distance from the pivot point to the bottom.
Or maybe the Z4 2.5... I really don't know, any opinions?'91 E30 M42 DIAMANTSCHWARZ

Yeah, I think I will be going for the Z3 1.9. Seems like the best for my needs.Originally posted by DigitalwaveGet the Z3 1.9L.
Well, the main thing I want is room for more "throw" if that makes sense. The height of the shifter doesnt bother me all that much because either way, it will be much shorter than how it sits now :)Originally posted by BS87The Z3 2.8/3.0 will give you almost the same throw as the Z4 3.0, but sit a little bit higher.
Does anyone have personal experience with the Z3 1.9? There were no reviews on the FAQ page. Is it notchy, does it have that "double click" thing that people talk about?'91 E30 M42 DIAMANTSCHWARZ

I'm running the 1.9, have been for months since I ditched the 3.0.
The 1.9 is awesome, I can absolutely abuse my gearbox if I wish, the effort is minimal, but the throws are short enough that I dont feel like I'm driving a truck.
Conversely, I just installed a z3 2.8 lever in Syko's Cab, its nice and shit, the height is identical to mine, but the throws are much shorter. With that comes increased effort, although its not horrible. Alex (Syko) drives primarliy on the street, so I think he's happy. plus he has really low mileage and all his bushings/mounts are fresh, which makes a big difference.
1.9 is how E30s should have come from the factory.
If you want to spend the price of your motor on short shifter, get the UUC.
If you want to compete with your friends honda or miata, get a z4 3.0, z3 2.8, or Mz3 lever. I'd recommend upgrading tranny mounts at the same time. I blew a lot of shifts with the shorter levers thanks to transmission movement.
hope this helps. The things are cheap enough and there enough demand that you can afford to try a few, I did.BEERTECH
