‘87 325is - Does your fuel pump make noise before you start the car?

In an ‘87 325is, with the early fuel pump system - does your fuel pump whine (as in, it’s working properly) when you turn the key almost all the way, before you start the car?

I think the pump turns on for a brief 2 sec then off until you crank the engine.

Mine does not make any noise at all. And my car won’t start. So I am wondering if it’s the pump having failed.

Disconnect the fuel line going into the fuel rail. Put it into a container then start the car. If fuel is shooting out then your fuel pump is operational.

jump it at the relay to see if it runs you will hear it. then you can check it runs when it is cranking as above.

The fuel pump will not make noise or "prime" before the car starts. It only when when the engine is cranking or running. I have tested this and know I am correct.
