Cruise Control died

After 700 miles of perfect operation, on the way back from Laredo around 200 miles in my CC died. I checked the fuse, connectors & everything is fine except no CC. Where do I start looking to fix it. I checked the Manual & there is nada on diagnosing just R&R.

Check that your cable hasn't snapped. Also check that your clutch and brake pedal switches are working normally.

Cable is fine, fuse is fine, car is auto no clutch, Where is the break pedal switch? check for proper resistance at the switch? What is the correct resistance?

Ok So how do I find the cruise control in the TIS? I have searched & can not find it under e30. I found it (accidentally) in e36. So I know it's there.

make sure the servo cable is still on the butterly

remove the kickpanel, look for a black round connector, make sure its nice and tight (goes to the servo)

above the ECU, in the glovebox, make sure that harness is connected to the CC Computer.

Make sure the Cruise Control Stalk harness is connected, its attached to the ignition switch harness under the kickpanel as well.

if it still does not work, could be a bad CC Computer.

Also make sure you have no brake lights out, otherwise Cruise will not work at all, as it uses the braking circuit to determine if you want to disengauge CC

I will check all that. I know the break lights are ok because the warning light goes out when I hit the breaks right after I start the car.

All is fine except a vacuum hose from god knows where to the charcoal canister was disconnected, I connected it but don't know if that was the problem (I seriously doubt it) because my wife had to take the car. I will know this afternoon.

Well wasn't the hose. Man I hope I can fix it, driving 1400 miles without it sucks!

II looked again and there is over an inch of play in the cable (I hear the cc servo clicking at the end of the play so I know for sure it's connected). Can I put something in there while I wait for the new cable to come? (to take up the slack)?

Ok so the answer is yes I can cause I did & it works! I put a 9mm socket over the plastic adjuster, now to order a cable. How do I replace the damn thing? I opened the servo box and couldn't see how to get the cable off, inside it looks like a huge old thermostat from the 50's and the cable goes into a funnel shaped plastic cover that I didn't see any way to get off.

At least I can get to Laredo now without having my foot on the pedal for 700 miles!

I've taken apart a couple (318, not sure it makes a difference) servo's and i don't know if you can replace the cable. That spring deal scares me.

My cable snapped like a year ago, and I miss the bastard.

Yeah I was really careful, had visions of it coming apart lilke a clock mainspring in a cartoon!

In this diagram from the ETK it clearly comes off, question is how? Also how does the power cable come off? I didn't try too hard as I really didn't need it off but it's on there really well!
