    5-spd swap in a 320AiC

I've found in Germany an 1989 320AiC with a (she thinks) dead auto gearbox
car was droven by an woman and has now an E46 cabbie
and the E30 is now for sale
so I was thinking to replace the engine by an 2.5i and a man. box
does anybody know what's all involved in this job ?
    I've also heard that a 320i don't use a Getrag but a ZF S5-16

so my plan is to buy that cheap 320AiC
replace the 2.0i and auto tranny by an 2.5i man. tranny

    TIA Axel Cohen

That transfomed the interior quite nicely. First time I've seen something like that. Cool

auto trannies were ZF, but there should be no issues swapping a 5 speed assuming tranny mounts are they same (and there's no reason to think they wouldn't be).

you'll need a pedal assembly (airbag or non-airbag specific), slave/master cylinders, shifter assembly, transmission, driveshaft, mounts, and some minor wiring, and probably other misc. parts. of course you'll want to replace all seals in the transmission and the rear main seal on the engine as well.

there are several people here who have done their swaps, I should finally get to do mine this spring/summer. :)

Dude snatch it up just for the interior. The engine swap you can do, it's all out there on the web and in Bentley service manual.

I was told by BMW AG that my 320i Cab had a Getrag 240 (if a manual). I'm now running a stroked M20B25 but I've used the same manual gearbox & driveshaft that I got for my M20B20 when I did the auto-manual swap.

There is plenty of parts lists around for the manual gearbox swap........perhaps TJ has one since he recently did the swap.

BTW, great lookin cab, especially the dash ;) Good luck with it!!

                A Getrag 240 ?? that's the same as the 318i ???

I've access to an ZF S5-16 Man gearbox from an 320i but it looks much shorter than a Getrag 260 :?

btw had the 320i a large or an small case diff ???

Dunno much about the 318i, but the 240 was in the 320i ;)

Even Metric Mechanic says the Getrag 240 was used in the 320i.........it's the one I bought, and at the MM site you can see that it is identical looking to the Getrag 260.

Anyhow, if you want you can always use the 325i gearbox ;) or the dogleg box from the 323i.

                    Good luck!
