e30 m3 high mounted brake light?

How does the high brake light mount up on the e30m3? Anyone have a pic? Can it be transferred to a non-m?

Good question. I shall have a look at my spare. There must be 2 holes in the body because the light has a plastic bracket with expanding rivets with screws in the middle that expand when you fasten them down. I don't think you can properly install one in a regular e30 due to the difference in angle of the rear window.

^ah. Good point. Maybe the "bezel" of the light could be trimmed. I would like to the the body mounting point if anyone has a pic.

Yeah true, I'm sure it's possible but not without modification. Also, these things are expensive and very hard to find. May not be worth it unless you score a deal.

Why so rare? What years did they come on?

Because they only came on M3's so it's a specialized part. Expensive new and hard to find used.

            Realoem says $130.

Doesn't it mount to a totally non existant part of a non M e30?

                Well, that's not that rare.

The e30 M3 has a metal base welded to the ceiling, where the third brake light
is mounted to.The third brake light will fit flush on a regular e30,but there's no
provision for mounting it to the ceiling.

I found this out when I tried mounting a third brake light to my coupe. You would
have to remove the headliner and improvise some kind of mounting base in order
to attach the brake light to your non M e30.

If you're interested,I can sell you my third brake light unit,as I've decided to go without
                  a third brake light.
