Some of you may remember this M3 that popped up on Washington DC area Craigslist a few years back. It claimed to have a Alpina 3.5 among other various bits. Today I became the owner. It will require a good amount of work: floor is rotted underneath the gas pedal, gremlins from the engine swap, gutted interior and doors (lexan windows), mismatched door color, etc. I have attached some pics of the engine bay, can anybody help me identify what it is? Google searches seem to reveal that it may be a 2.8 Alpina. Thanks for the help.

Alpina made the 3.5S based on the e30 m3, and the 2.8 on the normal e30 body.
I'd run the VIN through the Alpina register guys and see what info they can pull up and verify for you.

The Alpina intake was used in only in a e30. The header should say Alpina. The motor mount are aluminum position 1 or steel position 2. Either one will say Alpina and part number. Oil pan might be Alpina and part. You can pm me more info.Projects Hartge,Alpina & AC Schnitzer Builds.http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=280601

On the intake side should be a Alpina part number. You can email Alpina in Germany to run the numbers for you.Projects Hartge,Alpina & AC Schnitzer Builds.http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=280601

If it is B6 3.5 260hp or B6 2.8 210hp. If B6 3.5 the year should say 1986-87. Later Alpina B6 3.5 used a m30 stock intake and e30 m3 B6 3.5s.Projects Hartge,Alpina & AC Schnitzer Builds.http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=280601
